The Supaflu chimney lining product is combined with water at the job site to produce a lightweight and highly insulative material used in the lining, relining, and restoration of residential, commercial, and light industrial masonry chimneys.
Limitations: The Supaflu Chimney Lining System is intended for lining and relining masonry chimneys. The lining material is not specially intended for structural purposes. However, the Supaflu product will provide significant increases in structural strength and stability. The lining material may be utilized for specific high temperature applications and in historical restoration and preservation.
Testing and Listings: The Supaflu Chimney Lining System has surpassed the requirements of the following tests: Tested and Listed by Intertek Testing Services to UL1777, UL130HT, and ULC-S640M. See BOCA Research Report #90-36.
Masonry Chimneys with Zero-Clearance
The Supaflu Chimney Lining System has been tested and is listed for use in masonry chimneys with zero-clearance to combustible materials. The testing consisted of thermal shock, temperature, freeze-thaw, compressive strength, acid resistance and a sweep test. ITS Listing Report # J97018322.1-231
Supaflu offers you many benefits including: improved structural stability, ease of maintenance, and suitability to all fuel types. However, Supaflu’s most important benefits are improved efficiency and added safety.
Supaflu's design is to insulate your chimney while providing an effective barrier between the flue gases and your living quarters. Because of its’ liquid consistency, Supaflu fills all cracks and pores, greatly reducing the chance of your exposure to toxic gases.
As an insulator, Supaflu is superior. In fact, the R-value is 500% greater than clay tile liners. This insulation ensures that flue gases remain hotter and more buoyant, thus improving overall venting efficiency and reducing buildup within the flue. Additionally, your chimneys’ exterior surface temperature will lower; reducing the chance combustible materials surrounding your chimney may ignite. Supaflu is non-corrosive and is free of asbestos. In addition, when subjected to alternate freeze-thaw cycles, Supaflu showed no signs of surface degradation.
Before the installation and repair process can begin, the chimney requires an inspection and cleaning thoroughly using the recognized industry procedures.
All openings in the chimney such as clean-out doors, thimbles, and fireplace openings are carefully closed and the properly bracing of all weak areas.
We lower the inflatable rubber former, the Supaformer, into the chimney. We properly size it to the requirements of the heating appliance(s), thus providing efficient ventilation for optimum draft and insuring gases resulting from combustion. If the lining of the chimney is with clay tile, the tiles must have a complete removal.
The Supaformer inflation is to the proper flue size and centered within the flue cavity using spacers. In offset chimneys, this spacing is vital to insure the required thickness of Supaflu.
Next, we pour the Supaflu lining material (water added at site) inside the chimney and around the inflated Supaformer. The lining material requires approximately 24 hours to properly cure before the removal of the Supaformer. The clean-outs and thimbles are reopen and all removal of all braces. The heating appliance(s) are then reconnected.
